MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL TIFFANY PHELPS

Great educators know that the key to learning is finding a way to make it meaningful for their student's. In other words, finding the "why" for each lesson. It's even more valuable if they can use their learning to solve real-life problems. A couple weeks ago I presented 5th grade math teacher, Katie Poole, with one of these problems. Elementary cafeterias can be loud and dare I say...a little chaotic. (I know, you're shocked to hear this, right?) As I spent some time in the lunchroom, I began to wonder if there was a better layout for the cafeteria tables. Perhaps repositioning them could help? Several thoughts were going through my head, but I knew any proposal would require a deeper understanding of the use of space, table length, number of seats needed, etc. It was then that the lightbulb went off. Mrs. Poole's students would know how to solve this! Without hesitation, they were up for the task. They have diligently been working toward a solution. It's amazing to see their excitement and thought process as they navigate through this. I have to tell you, these kids have come up with things that I wouldn't have even begun to think of. How cool will it be for them to walk into the cafeteria and see their plan become a reality? Way to go 5th grade! I am so thankful and proud!

Keep Calm

On October 31st, we will have a school wide pajama day.  One less thing to worry about in the morning!

BCE Interruption Graph

I wanted to quickly share the "interruption data" that was recently presented to the Campus Leadership Team (CLT) last week.  This indicates the the total number of overhead announcements that were made in a two week period (10 school days).  The horizontal axis represents the grade level (divided by class) with an overall total for that grade. I am hopeful that the full deployment of the Smart Tag dismissal feature will help lessen this significantly.  Regardless, the CLT is dedicating time to review our processes and brainstorm ways we can continue to maximize classroom engagement.
