March 29, 2018 Barton Creek Elementary Blue Jay Bulletin MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL PHELPS BCE was selected for a buzz-in system pilot! With safety at the forefront of our minds, Eanes ISD has selected Barton Creek Elementary to pilot a buzz-in system that will be launched next week. Starting April 4th, all parents and visitors will need to utilize the buzz-in system, which includes an intercom and a camera located to the right of the BCE front door.
After morning drop-off ends, all outside front doors of the school will be locked and all traffic will be required to buzz in through the main entrance. All parents and visitors will need to push an intercom button, state their name and purpose of their visit in order to gain entry into the school. School staff will make a visual determination prior to granting the visitor access to the school.
Parents and visitors will need to use the buzz-in system from 8:40am to 2:50pm.
As before, all visitors will be required to sign in and wear a visitor badge while in the school.
Staff who have access badges will not need to use the buzz-in system, as they may use the card readers located outside of entrances.
Q: When does the new school buzz-in system go into effect? A: The new buzz-in system will go into effect Monday, April 4th. After morning drop-off ends, all outside front doors of the school will be locked and all traffic will be required to buzz in through the main entrance. All parents and visitors will need to push an intercom button, state their name and the purpose of their visit in order to gain entry into the school. School staff will make a visual determination prior to granting the visitor access to the school. We will also continue to reinforce that all visitors sign in and wear a visitor badge while in the school.
Q: What if my child is late to school? Will he or she need to be buzzed in? A: The student will need to go to the main entrance of the school in order to enter. The student may be buzzed in if they are immediately recognizable as a child who attends the school. However, the student may need to use the intercom button to speak to the lobby monitor and request access.
Q: Who will operate the buzz-in station if the lobby monitor steps away from the desk? A: BCE staff have back-up plans in place in the event that the monitor needs to leave the desk.
Q: Will the main entrance be open before and after school hours? A: Yes. The entrance will be open during morning drop-off and when school dismisses.
Q: Will parents who are volunteers at the school need to follow the same buzz-in procedures? A: Yes. All parents and visitors will need to follow the buzz-in procedures in order to enter the school.
Q: Why is the District piloting a buzz-in system at BCE? A: Eanes ISD has an ongoing commitment to school safety. We began investigating school buzz-in systems earlier this year as an additional safety method to control who has access to the building.
Q: Will other schools get a buzz-in system? A: BCE was selected as a pilot for the buzz-in system. After gathering and reviewing information from the pilot, we will consider expanding the buzz-in system throughout the district. CONGRATULATIONS! COMMUNITY Westlake Hyline presents "Zenith 2018: Quoted" You've seen them on the field at Chapparal Stadium, now come see them on stage! The Westlake Hyline dance team presents their annual spring show, Zenith, on April 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 at the WHS Performing Arts Center. This year's theme, "Quoted," was chosen because of the many ways dance can inspire, uplift and communicate in the way some of the most often-quoted words do, sometimes even more powerfully. The team, supported by the highly-acclaimed production talents of the WHS Technical Entertainment Crew (TEC), will perform a wide range of fresh, fun choreography: lyrical, hip-hop, modern, jazz and tap, in addition to their award-winning competition pieces and the beloved "Bob & Susie" dance featuring team fathers! Hyline is also proud to welcome to the stage the Star Steppers, the Dance Department Classes, the Madrigals, vocal and instrumental soloists, a high-tech light show, Cheer and the can't-miss "Gyline" to showcase the many performance talents that thrive at Westlake High School.
