BCE Families,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I hope you were able to relax and recharge this summer. I kicked off my break with some fun in the sun with my two children, Bryson (7) and Brooklyn (3), at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in North Texas. I then took some time to visit a dear friend of mine in Annapolis, Maryland. The weather was beautiful! It was much needed after the triple-digit temperatures we've endured here. My summer was topped off with several days in Minneapolis, Minnesota where I was joined by several EISD educators as we learned from the best at The Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) at the University of Minnesota.

Things are now in full swing and we can't wait for you to see some of the building improvements that have happened. It's unbelievable what a coat of paint can do. The school looks so fresh and clean. They were able to paint the hallways, restrooms, and library. We hope to have the cafeteria and interior classrooms painted sometime in the near future, but we're happy with what we were able to accomplish this summer. Additionally, you will see new water fountains with an added filtered bottle filling station (Shout-Out Booster Club!). The 5th grade class of 2018 gifted the school with custom painted positive messaging in the restrooms on both sides of the cafeteria. Our 5th grade and art classrooms are decked out with new flexible furniture and two of our kindergarten classrooms are participating in a furniture pilot with a local vendor. Beyond the aesthetics of the building, you will find several other changes. With retirements, babies, new career ventures, and moves, we had the opportunity to hire over 15 new staff members. As you would expect, we have hired the BEST of the BEST. I am beyond excited for you all to meet this exceptional group of educators as we continue to build on the positive learning atmosphere that makes BCE so special.

On behalf of the entire BCE staff, I want to express how eager we are to welcome our Blue Jays and hear about all of their summer adventures. We are humbled by the opportunity to work with your children. I hope this newsletter provides you with just enough information to prepare you, but not overwhelm you. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us should you have any questions. We are here to help.

Thank you,

Barton Creek Elementary
