COUNSELING CORNER

This week the fourth graders have had the privilege of participating in Creative Action's Brave Schools program, The Courage to Stand. This four day interactive program focuses on building SEL skills that support the practices of empathy and inclusion. During the program, the students travel back in time to two important historical moments, the Civil Rights Movement and the Holocaust. Students learn about the impact of bullying by becoming part of the performance and rehearse how they can courageously intervene in present day bullying situations.

5th grader, John Howard, did an on-air interview with Colonel Craig Flowers on 104.9 the HORN this past weekend. He has expressed interest in a potential career in the military and he emailed Colonel Craig over the holidays to see if he'd be open to an interview so he could learn more about his path. To John's surprise, he invited him to the the interview on air on his weekly radio show.  John was ecstatic!

He even got to meet a few former NFL players, too.

The FLL team, Blue Jay Bots, competed this past Saturday at the Central Texas Regional where they won the Core Values award for Inspiration. This is a huge deal for a team as young as they are. In FLL, the core values awards are second only to the Champions awards. The fact that they won an award like this is a sign of how smart, dedicated, and amazing this team is. Way to go Blue Jay Bots!

The team members are Chloe Liu, Dharma Sabapathy, Henry, McKaskle, Ishaan Goel, Janina Maldei-Stumm, and Sarika Hegde.
