Jan 22, 2021 MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL PHELPS ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() BCE Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. It may have been a short and rainy week, but it was still full of fun. Next week will be our first full school week in awhile. We'll have one week of "normalcy" and then the following week there will be some change again. Make sure to mark your calendars for early releases on 2/3 and 2/4. We will dismiss at 11:50 am on those days. Our teachers will be using this desperately needed time to plan and prepare quality instruction for our students. We are so grateful to have a community that supports this opportunity for our teachers during this unprecedented time.
We hope your children are enjoying the campus reading of Wishtree. Our No Place for Hate Student Ambassadors loved it so much, they decided to use the book as their second of three schoolwide projects. On the stage in the cafeteria, our No Place for Hate Ambassadors constructed our very own Wishtree! Students were given leaves to write or draw their wishes for the world to be put on our tree, just as the characters in the book would. These will act as the leaves on our tree and as we have more positive thoughts, our tree will continue to grow! It stands as a symbol of our togetherness, strength, and a reminder that with a good attitude and love for our neighbor, we can get through anything the world throws at us. Special thanks to Mrs. Ricter and Ms. Shafer for being willing to help our ambassadors with this project! In addition to our in person tree, one of our remote ambassadors created a Google Slides document with a picture of a Wishtree on it which will be shared with our remote teachers to provide an opportunity for our remote students to participate. They are also able to submit wishes through their teachers to be added to the tree. It is a great way for students in person and remote to have their voices and wishes heard side by side!
We want to give a huge shout out to our 2020-21 No Place for Hate Teacher Leaders, Mr. Dauernheim, Mrs. Schoppmann, and Mrs. Cheatham, and our Student Ambassadors, Charlotte Assir, Brody Fuir, Vivi Howell, Kareem Johnson, Mari Keller, Kyle Loboprabhu, Ebrahim Masood, and Lindsey Zhang. At each meeting, our ambassadors continually leave us in awe of their incredible thoughtfulness and desire to make our community a better place. It is hard to narrow down just what our next project will be because they have so many great ideas. We sincerely thank them for their time, positive attitudes, and for being positive role models for all of our students!
Have a great weekend and stay safe!
